Lindholm, Flames top Jets, extend win streak to 10

CALGARY -- Elias Lindholm scored the go-ahead goal with 47 seconds left in the third period, and the Calgary Flames won their 10th straight game, 3-1 against the Winnipeg Jets at Scotiabank Saddledome on Monday.

The winning streak is tied for the longest in Calgary/Atlanta Flames history.
"I don't put a whole lot into 10 in a row unless they were 10 in a row in the playoffs," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said.
Lindholm has scored nine goals during an eight-game goal streak, tying the record for the Flames (30-13-6), who swept a seven-game homestand and have outscored opponents 42-15 during the 10-game streak. Jacob Markstrom made 22 saves.
"Ten in a row is nice," Lindholm said. "Ten in a row, that's good. We were struggling a little bit there before we started the streak. It was just nice to see it go in. It was a tough game. It was tight, not a lot of chances, but we stuck with it. Ten in a row feels pretty good."
Dominic Toninato scored, and Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves for the Jets (22-20-8), who have lost two in a row and three of five.
"I think at this point of the year it's about wins," Winnipeg forward Pierre-Luc Dubois said. "I think that we can do a better job of bringing our identity to the other team. Calgary's a good team. Nobody thought it was going to be an easy game, but it could've gone either way tonight. Unfortunately, it went their way. It's a playoff race right now. Can't be losing too many games."

WPG@CGY: Lindholm scores goal in eighth straight game

Lindholm scored to put Calgary up 2-1 at 19:13 of the third period when he tipped Johnny Gaudreau's point shot.
"It was great," Gaudreau said. "He's been playing really well for us. He's been finding the net. If there's a guy that's going to get us the game-winner there, he's a guy I'd bet on. He's great in front and a big goal for us."
Tyler Toffoli made it 3-1 when he scored into an empty net at 19:49.
"It's hard when you're 40 seconds away from at least getting a point but it's a hard-fought game," Jets defenseman Nate Schmidt said. "It was a good hockey game. There were a lot of chances for both teams and both goalies played well. It's starting to get to that time where you need to start accumulating points this time of year.
"That team has been really good, and they came out with a good start. Once we got into the game -- and I think we started to play better as the game went on ... But it [stinks] that we give up one late."

WPG@CGY: Toninato tips Pionk's shot home

Sean Monahan gave Calgary a 1-0 lead 1:07 into the second period when he shot over Hellebuyck's glove off a zone entry on the power play.
Toninato tied it 1-1 at 7:39 of the second when he tipped Neal Pionk's shot over Markstrom's glove.
Lindholm scored at 11:36 of the second, but Winnipeg coach Dave Lowry challenged the play, and a video review determined Lindholm was offside prior to the goal.
"I didn't see the offside goal until between periods and then I realized that I went offside there," Lindholm said. "Today was a tough game. We didn't have a lot going on, not a lot of chances, but we stick with it and found a way, just like last game, so it was nice."
