Wings, Helm agree to four-year extension @NHLdotcom
Darren Helm has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings worth $8.5 million, the team announced Tuesday.

Helm, 25, had nine goals and 26 points in 68 games for the Wings this past season. He has been a regular in the Detroit lineup for the past three seasons, but he also appeared in 41 playoff games for the Red Wings during back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 2008 and 2009.

He would have become a restricted free agent July 1. The Red Wings' remaining free agents include Jiri Hudler, Tomas Holmstrom, Justin Abdelkader (RFA), Kyle Quincey (RFA) and Ty Conklin and according to, still more than $24 million in cap space to spend.
