CALGARY - Willie Desjardins of the Medicine Hat Tigers will be named the next head coach of Canada's junior men's hockey team Wednesday.

Hockey Canada confirmed the 52-year-old from Climax, Sask., will coach the 2010 team. Canada will pursue a sixth straight gold medal at the world junior championship, starting Dec. 26 in Regina and Saskatoon.

Desjardins was an assistant coach on Pat Quinn's staff that led Canada to gold in Ottawa on Jan. 5.

The Tigers won Western Hockey League championships under Desjardins in 2004 and 2007 and he was named the Canadian Hockey League's top coach in 2006.
