Wild sign Brad Staubitz to two-year deal

Minnesota General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced Tuesday that the Wild signed restricted free-agent forward Brad Staubitz to a two-year contract.

The 25-year-old was acquired by Minnesota from the San Jose Sharks on Monday in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft. The right wing recorded 3 goals and 6 points along with 110 PIM in 47 games with San Jose in 2009-10, his first full season in the NHL.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alta., split the 2008-09 season between San Jose and the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. He had 1 goal and 3 points with 76 PIM in 35 games with San Jose and tallied 5 assists and 130 PIM with Worcester. Staubitz has 4 goals and 9 points with and 186 PIM in 82 NHL games with San Jose, which signed him as a free agent on Sept. 19, 2005.
