ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Maxim Noreau to a multiyear deal on Thursday.
Noreau had eight goals and eight assists in 50 games for Houston of the AHL last season. The 20-year-old attended training camp with the Wild last year after leaving his junior hockey team in Canada, and the Wild think he's ready for the NHL.
"Maxim took a risk in leaving junior hockey last season, where he was a star player with a strong track record of success," assistant general manager Tom Lynn said in a statement. "He turned pro and proved he can contribute at the AHL level and earned an NHL contract. Now, his next challenge will be demonstrating he belongs in the NHL."
Noreau played juniors with Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. he had 44 goals and 104 assists in 203 games over three seasons.
