ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -The Minnesota Wild recalled goaltender Josh Harding from the AHL on Wednesday, calling into question the health of starter Manny Fernandez.
Fernandez sprained his left knee against Dallas in Minnesota's last game before the All-Star break. His status has remained in question, though Fernandez has been skating in Minnesota during the break.
Harding started three games with the Wild last season, becoming the first goaltender in league history to appear in a shootout in his debut. He stopped two of three shots during that shootout against St. Louis in a 5-4 victory.
In 38 games with the Houston Aeros this season, Harding is 17-15-4 with a 2.48 goals-against average. If Fernandez can't play when the regular season resumes Friday against Calgary, Harding would likely be the backup to current No. 2 goalie Niklas Backstrom.
