Wild haven't decided on opening-night goalie

by Staff

The Minnesota Wild have not decided on an opening-night goaltender with two preseason games remaining, coach Mike Yeo said Wednesday.

Niklas Backstrom will start Thursday at the St. Louis Blues, and Darcy Kuemper will start at home against the Blues on Saturday, the Wild's last game of this preseason.

"We're going to evaluate everyday; I don’t want to say one guy has the edge over the other," Yeo told the Wild website. "I've been very satisfied with our goaltending. I'm glad those guys have been competing hard. ... Everyone wants the net game one."

Ilya Bryzgalov is also in camp but not expected to be in contention to start the regular-season opener Oct. 9 against the Colorado Avalanche. Josh Harding is out with a fractured foot.
