Minnesota Wild forward Mikko Koivu joined NHL Live to talk about their Western Conference Second Round series against the Chicago Blackhawks and their success on home ice during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Wild are 4-0 at Xcel Energy Center heading into Game 4 on Friday (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, RDS, TSN).
"At home I think we get a lot of energy from our fans," Koivu said. "The building is loud and I'm sure it's not an easy place for a visiting team to come and play. Confidence is obviously another big factor. When you're able to get points and get wins in your own building, you get confident.
"On the road, especially on the playoffs, we've been playing OK, but we recognize too that we need to be better to win more games on the road. But on the other hand, pretty much every single team in this League is hard [to beat] on their home rink."
The Wild trail the best-of-seven series 2-1 after a 4-0 win against the Blackhawks in Game 3 on Tuesday.
"Game 3 was obviously huge for us," Koivu said. "Winning that gave us a chance to be back in the series and obviously another huge game for us [Friday] night in Minnesota. We're still behind, but we have another chance to come closer and hopefully we'll be ready for [Friday] night."
