WHL Roundup: Witala's four-point night lifts Cougars over Giants 6-5 @NHLdotcom

VANCOUVER - Chase Witala scored three goals and set up one more as the Prince George Cougars downed the host Vancouver Giants 6-5 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

Jansen Harkins, Justin Almeida and Joseph Carvalho also scored for the Cougars (17-9-2).

Chase Lang and Alex Baer and Tyler Benson led Vancouver (8-18-4) with a goal and two assists apiece while Dylan Plouffe and Ty Ronning added the others.

Prince George's Nick McBride made 33 saves for the win. Ryan Kubic started in net for Portland but was pulled after giving up two goals on three shots in only 4:06 of action. David Tendeck took the loss after stopping 20-of-24 shots in relief.

The Cougars went 1 for 1 on the power play while the Giants failed to score on their only chance with the man advantage.



CALGARY ? Cody Porter made 16 saves and Jake Bean scored the shootout winner as the Hitmen handed Swift Current its 11th straight loss.

Jordy Stallard scored in regulation for Calgary (18-11-2), which outshot its opponent 40-17 through 65 minutes of action.

Tyler Adams found the back of the net for the Broncos (8-17-4), which got a 39-save performance from Travis Child.



RED DEER, Alta. ??? Luke Coleman scored once and set up two more as Prince Albert toppled the Rebels.

Tim Vanstone and Brendan Guhle had a goal apiece for the Raiders (18-8-3) while Rylan Parenteau stopped 27 shots for the win.

Brandon Hagel kept Red Deer (19-10-0) from being blanked. Rylan Toth turned away 30-of-33 shots in defeat.
