WHL Roundup: Stovin scores three times as Blades extend win streak

SASKATOON - Brett Stovin scored three times and set up one more as the Saskatoon Blades extended their win streak to four games by downing the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-1 on Saturday in Western Hockey League play.

Nick Zajac and Ryan Graham each had a goal and two assists for the Blades (13-29-3) while Amil Krupic added a goal an assist. Brock Hamm stopped 31 shots in the win.

Axel Blomqvist scored for the Warriors (20-25-4) as Brody Willms made 26 saves in defeat.

Saskatoon went 3 for 5 on the power play while Moose Jaw failed to convert on three chances with the man advantage.

WHEAT KINGS 8 PATS 3

BRANDON, Man. ? Ryan Pilon, Reid Duke and Duncan Campbell each scored twice and Jordan Papirny made 24 saves as the Wheat Kings handed Regina its fifth-straight loss.

Rihards Bukarts and Quintin Lisoway also scored for Brandon (35-9-4), which extended its win streak to six contests.

Adam Brooks, Pavel Padakin and Rykr Cole supplied the scoring for the Pats (26-17-5). Daniel Wapple allowed six goals on 43 shots before giving way to Tyler Brown, who stopped 10-of-12 shots in 14:42 of relief.

EDMONTON ??? Adam Tambellini scored twice and Mack Shields made 21 saves as Calgary came from behind to beat the Oil Kings.

Connor Rankin scored once and set up two more for the Hitmen (26-17-5) while Elliott Peterson and Beck Malenstyn added a goal apiece.

Marshall Donald and Brett Pollock gave Edmonton (22-20-6) an early 2-0 lead before Calgary stormed back. Tristan Jarry stopped 31 shots in defeat.

REBELS 5 GIANTS 3

RED DEER, Alta. ??? Rylan Toth made 28 saves and the Rebels broke out to a four-goal lead halfway through the game en route to defeating Vancouver.

Haydn Fleury, Evan Polei, Riley Sheen, Brooks Maxwell and Wyatt Johnson scored for Red Deer (27-14-6), which improved to 7-0-1 in its past eight games.

Carter Popoff scored twice for the Giants (20-26-2) and capped a three-point night with an assist on a goal from Zane Jones. Cody Porter gave up four goals on 16 shots before Payton Lee came on in relief to stop 15-of-16 shots in 26:36.

CRANBROOK, B.C. ??? Austin Vettrl scored twice and Luke Philp had a goal and an assist as Kootenay toppled Swift Current.

Jaedon Descheneau and Zak Zborosky also scored for the Ice (25-22-1) as Wyatt Hofflin kicked out 22 shots for the win.

Jake DeBrusk supplied the scoring for the Broncos (21-22-5), who got a 30-save performance from Landon Bow.

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. ??? Jayden Sittler stopped 52 shots and Florian Baltram scored twice as the Hurricanes snapped a five-game skid with a win over Prince George.

Giorgio Estephan scored once and set up two more for Lethbridge (11-28-6) while Tyler Wong, Andrew Nielsen, Kord Pankewicz and Mike Winther added the others.

Jansen Harkins had a pair of goals for the Cougars (20-28-2), who are winless in nine outings, and Jared Bethune scored once. Ty Edmonds allowed four goals on 17 shots before Patrick Gora took over for the final 29:47. Gora stopped 12-of-15 shots in relief.

SPOKANE, Wash. ??? Evan Sarthough stopped all 26 shots his way as Tri-City blanked the Chiefs.

Lucas Nickles and Beau McCue supplied the scoring for the Americans (24-22-2).

Garret Hughson kicked out 21-of-22 shots for Spokane (23-19-4), which dropped its fifth-straight outing.

VICTORIA ??? Justin Paulic stopped 26 shots and Brandon Fushimi struck twice as the Royals shut out Kamloops for their sixth win in seven games.

Jack Walker scored once and assisted on two others for Victoria (26-19-4) while Greg Chase, Alex Forsberg and Brandon Magee added a goal apiece.

Connor Ingram stopped 18-of-23 shots before giving way to Cole Kehler, who made 13 saves in 25:03 of relief for the Blazers (18-25-6).

KENT, Wash. ????????? Miles Koules scored the winner 1:52 into overtime and Adin Hill made 42 saves as Portland slipped past Seattle for its fourth win in a row.

Chase De Leo, Nicolas Petan and Oliver Bjorkstrand also scored for the Winterhawks (27-19-3) while Petan tacked on two assists for a three-point night.

Ryan Gropp led the Thunderbirds (22-18-6) with a pair of goals and Jared Hauf scored the other. Taran Kozun made 26 saves in defeat.

KELOWNA, B.C. ????????? Tyrell Goulbourne scored twice and added three assists while Nick Merkley had a pair of goals as the Rockets hammered Everett.

Rourke Chartier, Madison Bowey, Cole Linaker, Leon Draisaitl and Josh Morrissey also scored for Kelowna (36-8-3), which got a 14-save outing from Jackson Whistle.

Kohl Bauml, Remi Laurencelle and Patrick Bajkov scored for the Silvertips (30-14-4). Carter Hart allowed six goals on 20 shots in 35:45 before Austin Lotz came in to turn away 10-of-12 shots in relief.
