WHL Roundup: Leier and Klimchuk combine for eight points as Pats crush Cougars @NHLdotcom

REGINA - Boston Leier and Morgan Klimchuk combined for four goals and eight points as the Regina Pats crushed the visiting Prince George Cougars 8-0 on Friday in Western Hockey League play.

Leier had three goals and an assist for the Pats (25-20-5) while Klimchuk scored once and set up three more.

Chandler Stevenson had a goal and two assists for Regina, Carter Hansen, Logan McVeigh and Dyson Stevenson each scored once and Dawson MacAuley made 21 saves for his third shutout of the season.

Prince George's (18-25-7) Adam Beukeboom gave up four goals on 12 shots before giving way to Ty Edmonds, who stopped 25-of-29 shots in 44 minutes of relief.

A combined 157 penalty minutes were handed out to both clubs, including nine fighting majors and seven game misconducts in the third period.



SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. ? Nick McBride made 37 saves and Leon Draisaitl scored the shootout winner as Prince Albert edged the Broncos.

Collin Valcourt and Dakota Conroy scored in regulation for the Raiders (23-23-2) and Josh Morrissey assisted on both.

Graham Black and Jay Merkley each had a goal and an assist for Swift Current (25-18-7).

Eetu Laurikainen turned away 24-of-26 shots for the Broncos.



SASKATOON ??? Patrik Bartosak stopped 42-of-44 shots, including all 18 his way in the third period, as Red Deer slipped past the Blades for its fourth win in a row.

Rhyse Dieno had a goal and an assist for the Rebels (25-21-2) while Evan Polei and Brooks Maxwell each scored once.

Cameron Hebig and Cory Millette responded for Saskatoon (13-33-4).

Troy Trombley turned away 38-of-41 shots for the Blades.



KAMLOOPS, B.C. ??? Jack Walker scored twice and Tyler Soy had a goal and two assists as Victoria hammered the Blazers.

Steven Hodges and Brandon Magee each had a goal and an assist for the Royals (32-16-2) while Austin Carroll and Logan Fisher had the others. Coleman Vollrath made 20 saves for the victory.

Kamloops (11-32-5) got goals from Chase Souto and Josh Connolly.

Bolton Pouliot started in net for the Blazers, but was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots. Cole Kehler replaced Pouliot for the start of the second period and stopped 25-of-28 shots in relief.



PORTLAND, Ore. ??? Nicolas Petan had two goals and an assist and Brendan Leipsic scored once and set up two more as the Winterhawks toppled Everett.

Derrick Pouliot and Matthew Dumba also scored for Portland (32-12-5), which improved to 7-0-1 in its last eight outings, and Paul Bittner tacked on two assists.

Jujhar Khaira scored for the Silvertips (25-16-7) while Noah Juulsen received a kneeing major and game misconduct at 17:51 of the third period.

Brendan Burke made 30 saves for Portland. Austin Lotz allowed four goals on 23 shots before Daniel Cotton took over in the third period. Cotton stopped 9-of-10 shots in eight minutes of relief.



KELOWNA, B.C. ??? Madison Bowey and Rourke Chartier each had a goal and two assists as the Rockets downed Medicine Hat.

Carter Rigby, Ryan Olsen and Myles Bell had a goal and an assist apiece for Kelowna (39-6-2) and Mitchell Wheaton added a single goal.

The Tigers (27-17-3) got goals from Ty Stanton and Curtis Valk.

Jordon Cooke made 29 saves for the Rockets. Marek Langhamer stopped 24-of-30 shots for Medicine Hat.



SPOKANE, Wash. ??? Eric Williams made 24 saves as the Chiefs handed Moose Jaw its sixth straight defeat.

Mitch Holmberg, Keanu Yamamoto and Riley Whittingham scored for Spokane (28-15-4).

Tanner Eberle scored the lone goal for the Warriors (13-28-8) while Justin Paulic stopped 26 shots in a losing cause.

The Chiefs went 0 for 3 on the power play as Moose Jaw failed to score on six chances with the man advantage.



KENNEWICK, Wash. ????????? Eric Comrie turned away 37 shots as Tri-City snapped Seattle's seven-game winning streak.

Beau McCue, Braden Purtill and Devon McAndrews supplied the offence for the Americans (24-21-4), who won their fourth straight contest.

Roberts Lipsbergs ruined Comrie's shutout bid at 11:50 of the third period while Danny Mumaugh stopped 19-of-22 shots for the Thunderbirds (29-15-5).

Tri-City's Riley Hillis was ejected in the first period for a kneeing major.



VANCOUVER ????????? Dalton Sward and Jackson Houck each scored two goals as the Giants thumped the Hurricanes.

Tyler Morrison, Travis McEvoy, Luca Leone, Thomas Foster, Ty Ronning and Arvin Atwal also scored for Vancouver (25-18-8). Payton Lee made 18 saves for his second career shutout.

The Giants scored five power-play goals and Sward added one short-handed marker.

Jonny Hogue started in net for Lethbridge (9-38-5), but was pulled after giving up four goals on 15 shots through 25:41. Jarrod Schamerhorn stopped 18 of 25 shots in relief.
