WHL Roundup: Cave scores hat trick, Bow records shutout as Broncos blank Pats

REGINA - Colby Cave had a hat trick and Landon Bow stopped all 44 shots he faced as the Swift Current Broncos shut out the Regina Pats 5-0 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Jay Merkley and Tanner LeSann also scored for the Broncos (26-24-5).

Daniel Wapple started in goal for Regina (30-18-7), turning away 11-of-15 shots in 26:19. Tyler Brown replaced him and made 18 saves in relief.

Swift Current failed to score on five power-play chances while the Pats were 0 for 4.

CHIEFS 5 WHEAT KINGS 4 (OT)

BRANDON, Man. ? Liam Stewart scored 27 seconds into overtime as Spokane came back to beat the Wheat Kings.

Dominic Zwerger struck twice in regulation for the Chiefs (27-24-4), who scored four straight to end the game. Markson Stewart and Kailer Yamamoto added the others.

Reid Duke had a pair of goals for Brandon (41-9-6), with Tyler Coulter and Peter Quenneville also chipping in.

BLADES 4 HITMEN 2

CALGARY ? Schael Higson scored his first of the season and it stood as the winner as Saskatoon ended the Hitmen's nine-game winning streak.

Cameron Hebig, Sam McKechnie and Brett Stovin also found the back of the net for the Blades (16-35-3), who snapped a four-game losing skid.

Terrell Draude and Carsen Twarynski had goals for Calgary (32-18-5).

RED DEER, Alta. ??? Florian Baltram scored a short-handed goal late in the first period as Lethbridge edged the Rebels.

Jamal Watson started the scoring for the Hurricanes (17-32-6).

Presten Kopeck replied on the power play in the third for Red Deer (28-18-8), which dropped its third straight.

CRANBROOK, B.C. ??? Brayden Point and Tanner Eberle both had a pair of goals as Moose Jaw topped the Ice.

Axel Blomqvist opened the scoring for the Warriors (22-29-4) in the first period. The win snaps a two-game slide.

Austin Vetterl answered in the third with a short-handed goal for Kootenay (28-27-1).

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. ??? Zach Pochiro scored two of Prince George's three first-period goals en route to doubling up the Tigers.

PORTLAND, Ore. ??? Chase De Leo and Oliver Bjorkstrand each had a pair of goals as the Winterhawks dominated Tri-City.

Josh Hanson, Miles Koules and Dominic Turgeon supplied the rest of the offence for Portland (32-20-4), which scored six times in the second period.

Jordan Topping opened the scoring early in the first for the Americans (26-27-3).
