WHL Roundup: A look at Sunday's games @NHL

Brendan Gallagher scored the game-winning goal and added three assists to lead the Vancouver Giants to a 5-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets in Western Hockey League action Sunday.

Gallagher assisted on Jordan Martinook's two goals as well as Jackson Houck's goal that opened the scoring for Vancouver (6-6-1). Cain Franson added an empty net goal and an assist.

Shane McColgan and Cody Chilke replied for Kelowna (4-7-1).

Adam Morrison stopped 26 saves for the Giants.

Adam Brown stopped 32 shots for the Rockets.

Though the Giants are pointless away from the Pacific Coliseum this season in five games, at home they are 6-1-1, while the Rockets have struggled on the road, with a 1-5-1 record.

Kelowna had won the previous two games between the teams this season, both 6-3.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Regina 5 Prince Albert 2; Kootenay 4 Calgary 2; and Everett 5 Seattle 1.

At Vancouver, the Rockets were outshot 14-6 in the first period, including 10-1 through 10 minutes. The Rockets did not get their second shot until three minutes remaining in the first while on a power play.

The Giants opened the scoring at 6:32 of the second period. Franson made a backhand pass over to Houck, and the 16-year old buried a shot past Brown for his second goal of the year.

Just 87 seconds later the Giants doubled their lead. Martinook blew by the Rockets??? Mitchell Chapman, went in alone on Brown and beat him blocker side for his fifth goal on the year. The Rockets drew within a goal with 6:25 to go in the second period. Colton Sissons made a behind-the-back pass off the net that the Morrison, trying to clear the puck, batted right to McColgan. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native made no mistake, extending his point streak to nine games.

Vancouver restored the two-goal cushion at 5:37 of the third period while on the man advantage. Gallagher took a great pass from Marek Tvrdon and he one-timed it high past Brown for his 10th of the season in his ninth game. Martinook also assisted on the play.

Martinook picked up his second goal of the game, burying a rebound from a Gallagher shot at 10:32.

Kelowna crept within two again when Sissons centred a puck for Chilke at 13:27 on the power play. It was Chilke???s sixth of the year.

At Regina, Matt Marantz had a goal and two assists to help the Pats (9-4-0) to a win over Prince Albert (4-9-2).

At Calgary, Erik Benoit had a goal and an assist to lead Kootenay over the Hitmen.


Slvertips 5 Thunderbirds 1

At Kent, Wash., Tyler Mawell scored twice and Kent Simpson made 34 saves as Everett (3-8-2) beat Seattle (4-5-0).
