WHL Roundup: A look at Saturday's games @NHLdotcom

For the first time since the 2001 season, the Western Hockey League has a 60-goal scorer.

Emerson Etem scored his 59th and 60th goal as the Medicine Hat Tigers downed the host Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-1 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

The Anaheim Ducks prospect is the first WHL player to record 60 goals in a season since Layne Ulmer scored 63 for the Swift Current Broncos 11 years ago.

Boston Leier also scored for the Tigers (42-22-5), who sit third in the Eastern Conference, while Matthew Konan chipped in with two assists.

Juraj Bezuch scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes (27-41-1).

Tyler Bunz stopped 27 shots for his 39th victory of the season as Damien Ketlo stopped 32 shots in defeat.

Medicine Hat went 0 for 2 on the power play while Lethbridge failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the WHL, it was: Moose Jaw 3, Regina 2 (OT); Swift Current 6, Prince Albert 3; Brandon 2, Saskatoon 1; Edmonton 7, Red Deer 4; Vancouver 3, Kamloops 2; Everett 3, Victoria 0; Prince George 3, Kelowna 1; Portland 11, Seattle 3 and Spokane 3, Kootenay 2.

At Lethbridge, Alta., Etem opened the scoring 37 seconds into the game and Leier added another at 13:33 to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Bezuch cut the lead in half at 2:31 of the second period but Lethbridge couldn't score again.

Etem scored into an empty net in the final minute of the game to secure a victory for Medicine Hat.


Warriors 3 Pats 2 (OT)

At Moose Jaw, Sask., Justin Kirsch scored the winning goal 2:31 into overtime as the Warriors (42-19-8) snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Regina (36-25-8).


Broncos 6 Raiders 3

At Swift Current, Sask., Graham Black scored two goals and added an assist and Jon Groenheyde stopped 34 shots as the Broncos (26-36-8) doubled up Prince Albert (21-41-6).


Wheat Kings 2 Blades 1

At Brandon, Mike Ferland had a goal and an assist and Corbin Boes made 34 saves as the Wheat Kings (37-28-4) clinched a playoff position by defeating Saskatoon (38-28-3).


Oil Kings 7 Rebels 4

At Edmonton, eight different players recorded a multi-point game for the Oil Kings (47-15-7) as they picked up their eighth win in a row by defeating Red Deer (30-32-6).


Giants 3 Blazers 2

At Kamloops, B.C., Marek Tvrdon scored twice and Adam Morrison made 26 saves as Vancouver (38-36-5) edged the Blazers (46-18-5).


Silvertips 3 Royals 0

At Everett, Wash., Kent Simpson stopped all 26 shots he faced and Cody Fowlie scored twice as the Silvertips (21-38-9) moved one point ahead of Victoria (22-41-6) in the Western Conference standings.


Cougars 3 Rockets 1

At Kelowna, B.C., Troy Bourke had two goals and an assist while Caleb Belter and Spencer Asuchuk added two assists each as Prince George (22-44-2) slipped past the Rockets (29-31-9).


Winterhawks 11 Thunderbirds 3

At Kent, Wash., Nicolas Petan scored four times and Brad Ross chipped in with three of his own as Portland (48-17-4) crushed the Thunderbirds (22-43-2).


Chiefs 3 Ice 2

At Spokane, Wash., Collin Valcourt scored the winner with less than six minutes to play in the third period as Spokane (36-23-9) halted their three-game losing streak with a win over Kootenay (36-25-8).
