WHL Roundup: A look at Friday's games @NHLdotcom

Sven Bartschi scored the only goal in the shootout to lift the Portland Winterhawks over the Kelowna Rockets 6-5 Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Ty Rattie scored twice for the Winterhawks (10-7-2) in regulation and Brad Ross,Tyler Wotherspoon and William Wrenn added singles.

Zach Franco and Brett Bulmer each scored two goals for the Rockets (5-9-2) and Shane McColgan scored once.

Brendan Burke made 14 saves for the win while Jordon Cooke turned aside 43 saves in defeat.

Kelowna scored once on seven power play chances as Portland went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the WHL, it was: Brandon 5, Calgary 2; Kootenay 4, Everett 2; Moose Jaw 3, Saskatoon 2; Prince Albert 5, Lethbridge 2; Red Deer 8, Seattle 2; Kamloops 5, Prince George 1 and Victoria 2, Vancouver 1.

In Kelowna, B.C., the Rockets opened the scoring at 8:26 of the first period when Bulmer scored shorthanded.

Portland tied the game when Wrenn scored less than four minutes later.

The game stayed tied at one until 1:59 of the second period when McColgan scored to regain the lead for the Rockets.

Franko scored on the power play to make it 3-1 Kelowna but before the period was finished, Rattie scored to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.

At 6:49 of the third period, Wotherspoon tied the game at three but again the Rockets would re-take the lead when Franko scored his second goal of the game at 11:07.

Ross scored his 10th goal of the season for the Winterhawks to tie the game at four only 16 seconds later.

Bulmer's second goal of the game gave Kelowna a 5-4 lead and a chance to earn two points however, Rattie scored again to tie the game at five and force overtime.

After no scoring in overtime, Bartschi won it for Portland in the shootout.


Wheat Kings 4 Hitmen 2

At Brandon, Man., Brendan Walker had two goals and two assists as the Wheat Kings (11-5-1) beat Calgary (6-8-1).


Ice 4 Silvertips 2

At Cranbrook, B.C., the Ice (12-3-2) had power-play goals from Joe Antilla and Elgin Pearce to beat Everett (4-12-3).


Warriors 3 Blades 2

At Moose Jaw, Sask., Justin Kirsch scored a hat trick to lead the Warriors (10-5-1) over Saskatoon (10-6-1).


Raiders 5 Hurricanes 2

At Prince Albert, Sask., Justin Maylan scored two goals and Eric Williams made 47 saves as the Raiders (5-13-2) beat Lethbridge (3-14-1).


Rebels 8 Thunderbirds 2

At Red Deer, Alta., The Rebels (10-4-1) got two-goal performances from Cory Millette, Adam Kambeitz and Turner Elson in a win over Seattle (5-8-0).


Blazers 5 Cougars 1

At Prince George, B.C., Tim Bozon and Brendan Ranford each scored two goals to lead Kamloops (12-4-0) over the Cougars (4-12-1).


Royals 2 Giants 1

At Victoria, B.C., Kevin Sundher had a pair of assist as the Royals (10-7-1) defeated Vancouver (9-8-1).
