CALGARY - Ryan White scored with 52.5 seconds left in double overtime to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 6-5 win over the Swift Current Broncos in Western Hockey League playoff action Tuesday night.
The Hitmen fought back from 2-0 and 5-2 deficits to tie the game and force overtime. In the second extra session, White picked up a loose puck in the slot before turning and firing a shot over the glove hand of Swift Current goalie Travis Yonkman.
With the win, the Hitmen now have a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series. The teams will play again on Wednesday and Friday nights at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Brock Nixon had two goals for the Hitmen, while Paul Postma and Karl Alzner also scored. White and Keith Seabrook each set up three goals.
Matt Tassone scored twice for the Broncos, while Dale Weise, Michael Wilson and Geordie Wudrick had singles.
Yonkman finished the game with 56 saves, including 18 in the second period.
Calgary starting netminder Dan Spence stopped 12 of 16 shots he faced before being replaced in goal by Martin Jones, who made 20 saves to record a victory in his first-ever WHL appearance.
The Broncos finished 2-for-5 with the man advantage, while the Hitmen converted two of eight power-play opportunities.
