Wheeler scores 2 goals to lift the Jets over the Hurricanes 3-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - Blake Wheeler scored two goals and the Winnipeg Jets beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Thursday night.

The Jets, who are in the middle of a five-game road trip, won for the fifth time in seven games and bounced back from a shutout loss in their previous game.

Carolina lost for the second time in three games since winning four straight.

Wheeler gave the Jets a 1-0 lead at 5:29 of the first period to get his sixth goal of the season.

Elias Lindholm scored Carolina's goal at 3:44 of the second period to tie the score at 1-1. But it didn't last as Wheeler scored on a tip in at the front of the net to push the Jets back into the lead at 13:02.

Michael Frolik put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal for Winnipeg with 1:30 left in the game.
