Whalers beat Sting 5-1, take 2-1 lead in first-round OHL series

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Chris Terry scored twice and added two assists to lead the Plymouth Whalers past the Sarnia Sting 5-1 in Ontario Hockey League playoff action Tuesday.

The Whalers lead the best-of-seven OHL Western Conference quarter-final series 2-1, with Game 4 slated for Sarnia, Ont., on Thursday night.

Rookie Tyler Seguin chipped in a goal and three helpers, while Joe Gaynor and Ryan Hayes had singles. The Whalers killed off 10 of 11 Sarnia power plays.

Plymouth netminder Matt Hackett turned aside 47 shots, giving up just a power-play goal by Sting captain Matt Martin late in the first period.

Sarnia goalie Dan Spence finished with 43 saves.
