Stanley Cup Playoff primer: Western Conference

Predators lead Jets, Blues by one point for first in Central; Stars, Avalanche eye first wild card

The NHL regular season ends Saturday and the though the eight berths for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Western Conference have been clinched, there is still plenty to be decided. The Nashville Predators lead the Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues by one point for first place in the Central Division and the Dallas Stars have a one-point lead over the Colorado Avalanche for the first wild card.

Calgary Flames (50-24-7)

Where they stand: 107 points; clinched first in Western Conference, Pacific Division

If playoffs started today: Would play the Colorado Avalanche in first round 

Remaining games: vs. Edmonton Oilers, Saturday (10 p.m. ET; CBC, SN1, SNE, SNO, SNP, NHL.TV)

San Jose Sharks (45-27-9)

Where they stand: 99 points; second in Pacific Division; clinched playoff berth

If playoffs started today: Will play the Vegas Golden Knights in first round

Remaining games: vs. Avalanche, Saturday (10:30 p.m. ET; NBCSCA+, ALT, NHL.TV)

Vegas Golden Knights (43-31-7)

Where they stand: 93 points; third in Pacific Division; clinched playoff berth

If playoffs started today: Will play the Sharks in first round 

Remaining games: at Los Angeles Kings, Saturday (10:30 p.m. ET; FS-W, ATTSN-RM, NHL.TV)

Nashville Predators (46-29-6)

Where they stand: 98 points; first in Central Division; clinched playoff berth

If playoffs started today: Would play Dallas Stars in first round 

Remaining games: vs. Blackhawks, Saturday (8 p.m. ET; FS-TN, NBCSCH, NHL.TV)

Winnipeg Jets (46-30-5)

Where they stand: 97 points; tied for second in Central Division; clinched playoff berth

If playoffs started today: Would play the St. Louis Blues in first round

St. Louis Blues (44-28-9)

Where they stand: 97 points; tied for second in Central Division; clinched playoff berth

If playoffs started today: Would play the Jets in first round

Dallas Stars (42-32-7)

Where they stand:  91 points; first wild card from Western Conference, clinched playoff berth 

If playoffs started today: Would play the Predators in first round 

Remaining games: vs. Minnesota Wild, Saturday (8 p.m. ET; FS-SW, FS-N, NHL.TV.

Colorado Avalanche (37-29-14)

Where they stand: 90 points; second wild card from Western Conference, clinched playoff berth  

If playoffs started today: Would play the Flames in first round 

Remaining games: at Sharks, Saturday (10:30 p.m. ET; NBCSCA+, ALT, NHL.TV)

The Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes have been eliminated from playoff contention in the Western Conference.
