West beats defending champion Sweden for first win at U17 Hockey Challenge @NHLdotcom

SYDNEY, N.S. - Jackson Keane and Troy Murray scored in the shootout Wednesday as West earned its first win at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge by beating defending champion Sweden 3-2.

Connor Hobbs had a goal and an assist in regulation for West (1-2-0), while Keegan Kolesar also scored.

John Dahlstrom and Filip Ahl replied for Sweden (2-0-1).

Logan Flodell made 38 saves for West.

Rasmus Hedstrom stopped 25 shots for Sweden.

Atlantic 4 Germany 3

Kyle Ward scored late in the third period to lead Atlantic over Germany.

Lane Cormier, Alexandre Jacob and Nathan Noel also scored for Atlantic (1-2-0).

Jakob Mayenschein scored twice and Lois Spitzner had the other goal for Germany (0-4-0).

Blade Mann-Dixon stopped 29 shots for Atlantic.

Michael Boehm stopped 22 shots for Germany.
