After spending the previous two seasons in the AHL, Coleman played his first full NHL season with the Devils in 2017-18. A surprise to make the roster out of camp, Coleman relied on his hard work and determination, earning an opportunity to play at the highest level and never disappointed. The 26-year-old forward appeared in 79 regular-season games, racking up 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points. A force on the penalty-kill, Coleman recorded a team-high three shorthanded goals (3) during the 2017-18 NHL season. Coleman's play improved throughout the season, playing some of his best hockey late, including in the Stanley Cup Playoffs where he tallied two goals in the Devils five-game series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
