Wendel Clark, Maple Leafs assist Syrian refugees

Toronto Maple Leafs community ambassador Wendel Clark was among the members of the organization's community and development team who were in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, to host a ball hockey tournament for Syrian refugees and their families as part of Hockey Is For Everyone month Monday.

Clark was joined by Maple Leafs Hockey School director Greg Schell, local community members Jeff Broadbent and Mark Dubas and Maple Leafs mascot Carlton the Bear for the event, where more than 100 refugees, including at least 70 children, participated. The goal of the tournament was to help them with their transition into their new life in Canada, create positive relationships with Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Ontario Provincial Police, and introduce them to Canadian sporting culture.
Guests received gift packs of Maple Leafs and Under Armour merchandise, along with hockey sticks to each of the children who participated in the tournament. Clark and Carlton took photos and signed autographs for all participants.
Clark, who played with the Maple Leafs for parts of 13 seasons, was inducted into "Legends Row" by Toronto on Saturday.
