Wellwood scores overtime winner as Windsor takes 2-1 series lead against London @NHLdotcom

WINDSOR, Ont. - Eric Wellwood scored 8:52 into overtime to give the Windsor Spitfires a 5-4 win over the London Knights and a 2-1 lead in their Ontario Hockey League Western Conference final series.

Windsor's Scott Timmins opened the scoring just under five minutes into the first when he rifled a wrist shot past the outstretched blocker of Knights' goalie Trevor Can.

It was Timmins' fifth of the playoffs and marked the third straight game he has scored Windsor's first goal of the game.

John Tavares tied the score before the end of the first on a two-man advantage. It was his third goal in the last two games.

Conor O'Donnell's first goal of the post-season put the Windsor up by a 2-1 margin heading into the third period.

After Dominic DeSando, Phil Varone and Justin Taylor scored to put the Knights up 4-2, Adam Henrique and Ben Shuton replied for the Spitfires to send the game to overtime and set the stage for Wellwood's heroics.

Andrew Engelage made 27 saves in picking up the win while Cann made 45 stops at the other end.

Game four goes Monday night in London.
