Bergevin on the addition of forward Cédric Paquette:
He's still a young guy. He can play center and wing. He's another player with good size. He's also from here. We've added two Quebec-born players who are happy and proud to play for the Canadiens. He can play on the penalty kill. He's a smart player. I think that Dominique Ducharme knows him well. He's another lefty who can take faceoffs. We're adding depth up front.
Bergevin on the Canadiens' situation at center:
We still have some young guys up the middle. I think that Jake Evans elevated his game last season. We're always listening and looking at players, in terms of free agents or via a trade. But, I believe that we must give a youngster like Jake a chance. He did well, especially in the second half of the season. We'd be very comfortable with that. But, I'm always looking around when it comes to this specific position.
Bergevin on his plan for further additions to improve the club:
In an ideal world, we'd like to add a mobile defenseman who moves the puck well. That would be in an ideal world. We looked at free agents, but with the money that was being asked, we didn't want to take a risk. We have Mattias Norlinder who will be at training camp. Nothing is guaranteed, but we have a lot of hope for him. We'll also look at possible trades. We can't have a perfect team at every position. By replacing Shea with David, we're getting the same type of defenseman that helped us reach the Stanley Cup Final. We're going to stick to the same recipe.
Bergevin on possibly making a trade down the road:
It's very possible. But, to get something, you have to give up something. If we want to get talented players, we also have to give up some talent. Everything depends on the offer and the demand. Those are things we're looking at to improve the team.
Bergevin on signing defenseman Chris Wideman:
He's an offensive defenseman. He was the top defenseman in the KHL this past season. He decided to play in Europe, and he did well. He can move the puck well. He also can help on the power play.
Bergevin on agreeing to terms with winger Joel Armia on a four-year contract:
Every player is unique. Everybody is different. When Joel is at the top of his game, he's very strong. He controls and protects the puck. He goes to the net. That's why we agreed on a four-year contract, which is a long term.
