WSH Capitals Short Shifts

When you go two decades between Stanley Cup Final appearances, you can expect a victory lap on social media.

The Washington Capitals will play for the greatest trophy in all of sports for the first time since 1998 after beating the Tampa Bat Lightning at Amalie Arena 4-0 on Wednesday.
Social media was buzzing with congratulations for the Capitals.
To no surprise, fans watching back at Capital One Arena were elated.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser sent out some video of fans celebrating in the district.

Rapper Wale, a D.C. native, was fired up for the Capitals win.

Former Capitals forward Peter Bondra, who was a member of the 1998 Eastern Conference champions, tweeted out his congrats.

Washington Wizards guard John Wall was happy for the team he shares a city with.

Basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing, currently the coach of Georgetown, showed the Capitals some love.

The Washington Nationals tweeted out that their manager, Davey Martinez, nearly predicted the final score of the Capitals victory.

And while the Nationals and their manager are big-time Capitals backers, their star player, a Las Vegas native, Bryce Harper is a big Golden Knights fan. He wore a Golden Knights hat in a picture posted to his Instagram story on Wednesday night, but also made this point on Twitter prior to the conference finals.

Epic is a good word for it.
