ST. LOUIS -- Alex Ovechkin scored his 30th goal for the Washington Capitals, but the St. Louis Blues scored four straight in a 5-2 win at Enterprise Center on Thursday.

Alex Pietrangelo had a goal and an assist, Oskar Sundqvist, Colton Parayko and Robert Thomas scored, and Jake Allen made 23 saves for the Blues (16-18-4), who have won three of their past five games and are 2-2-0 during a five-game homestand. David Perron and Ryan O'Reilly each had two assists.
"Tonight was just work," Pietrangelo said. "We outworked them, especially in the offensive zone. The penalty kill was good. The power play was good in the second period there. I think we simplified and started getting shots, and all of a sudden, the momentum started changing. I think we had about 40 shots, and we only gave up 25]. When you give up [25] shots against that team, you're doing something right defensively. I thought we did a real good job keeping them out of our end."

| Ovechkin scores 30 goals for 14th time with Capitals]*
Ovechkin is the second player in NHL history with 14 straight 30-goal seasons to begin his career. Ovechkin joins Mike Gartner, who did it his first 15 seasons (1979-80 through 1993-94), with the Capitals, Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs.
"It's nice to be in that company (with Gartner) but still a long way to go (in my career)," Ovechkin said.
Ovechkin, Gartner (15) and Jaromir Jagr (15; 1991-92 through 2006-07) are the only NHL players to score at least 30 goals in 14 or more consecutive seasons.
Ovechkin had not scored in six straight games.
"It's amazing what he's done, and that was encouraging," Capitals coach Todd Reirden said. "... He's just an elite, elite scorer that we're so fortunate to have on our team and the League is even fortunate just to have this type of a player that's a generational talent. To score 30 again this year is quite an accomplishment after going through a long season last year, and he continues to get a year older, but he still does the phenomenal things. Just the way he's able to score goals is unmatched for the most part."

Brett Connolly scored, and Braden Holtby made 37 saves for the Capitals (24-12-3), who have lost two in a row after a four-game winning streak. Michael Kempny had two assists.
Forward Vladimir Tarasenko (illness) did not play for St. Louis, which used 11 forwards and seven defensemen.
"He came in today and got some medicine and stuff like that," Blues coach Craig Berube said. "He really wasn't feeling well. We made a decision around 4 o'clock that he wasn't going to play."
Parayko scored on the power play at 12:23 of the second period to tie the game 2-2, and Sundqvist gave the Blues a 3-2 lead at 16:33.

Pietrangelo scored at 5:44 of the third period to make it 4-2, and Bozak scored on a breakaway at 11:08 to make it 5-2.
St. Louis outshot Washington 14-2 in the third.
"We stayed aggressive," Pietrangelo said. "When we're playing in the O zone, the best way to play defense is to play in their end. We kept the puck, we moved the puck, we worked. Forwards were great tonight, protecting the center of the ice. It kind of took their playmakers out of the game."
Thomas gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead four minutes into the first period, but Ovechkin tied it 1-1 at 15:34.
Connolly gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead three minutes into the second.

They said it

"We didn't play that well, and they wanted it more than us. We didn't play our best, and they were the better team tonight."-- Capitals forward Brett Connolly
"We haven't had a lot of dirty goals, but tonight, we had a couple, and I think that's what we need." -- Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist
