Andre Burakovsky scored the deciding goal in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Washington Capitals a 2-1 preaseason win against the St. Louis Blues at Verizon Center on Monday.

St. Louis forward Dmitrij Jaskin scored a power-play goal at 14:13 of the first period. Washington center Paul Carey tied it 1:50 into the third.

It was Alex Ovechkin's first preseason game with the Capitals since returning from the World Cup of Hockey 2016, when he competed for Team Russia. He was held off the score sheet but had 10 shots on goal in 22:09.

Blues goalie Carter Hutton made 37 saves on 38 shots through overtime before allowing two goals on four shootout tries.

Capitals goalie Braden Holtby made 13 saves on 14 shots in 31:50 before being relieved by Philipp Grubauer, who made saves on all seven shots he faced before denying three of four Blues in the shootout.
