Even the Stanley Cup champions can appreciate what the Vegas Golden Knights did in their first NHL season.

The Washington Capitals took out a full-page ad in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, congratulating the Golden Knights on their historic inaugural season that included a trip to the Stanley Cup Final.

Washington sent congratulations to Vegas, commending its "world-class ownership, front office, coaching staff and people" and "team of talented, hard-working players" before calling it "an honor to compete against you in the Stanley Cup Final."
The Golden Knights wowed the sports world with 109 regular-season points and became the first expansion team to reach the Cup Final in their first season since the St. Louis Blues in 1968. The Golden Knights also were the first expansion team to win a Cup Final game in their first season despite falling to the Capitals in five games.
