Ward's late goal lifts Capitals past Canadiens @NHLdotcom

The Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens played more than 58 1/2 minutes of scoreless hockey before Joel Ward's goal put the Capitals ahead en route to a 2-0 victory.

Ward banged a rebound past Carey Price with 1:29 left in regulation, and Brooks Laich hit the empty net 50 seconds later. Justin Peters stopped all seven shots he faced, and Braden Holtby made 11 saves to complete the shutout.

Each team went 0-for-6 on the power play.

Price, playing his first full game of the preseason, made 29 saves for the Canadiens, who had won their first three games.
