Victoriaville Tigres hire Yanick Jean as new head coach @NHLdotcom

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. - The Victoriaville Tigres have hired Yanick Jean as head coach, the club announced Monday.

Jean's hiring comes on the heels of Martin Bernard's dismissal on Saturday. "We feel that Yanick is a great fit for us," Tigres GM Jerome Mesonero said. "He has extensive knowledge of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, having already played and coached in the league.

"It was important for us to hire a coach who could continue the turnaround that started in 2005."

Jean spent four seasons as a player with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens from 1992-96. He returned to the Sagueneens in 2002 as an assistant coach, and stayed there until '05 with a stint in-between as interim head coach.

Victoriaville is eighth in the West Division with a 22-27-2-2 record.

Jean will make his debut Wednesday when the Tigres play host to the Gatineau Olympiques.
