Veteran forward Shanahan re-signs with New Jersey Devils @NHLdotcom

NEWARK, N.J. - Brendan Shanahan is returning for a 22nd NHL season.

The 40-year-old forward signed a one-year deal with the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

"Brendan Shanahan is an experienced veteran who can play in all situations, and accepts any role to help the team win," Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said in a release. "We are delighted to have him back."

In 34 regular-season games with the Devils last season, the Toronto native recorded six goals and eight assists. He has 656 goals and 698 assists in 1,524 games with New Jersey, St. Louis, Hartford, Detroit and the New York Rangers. Shanahan also has 60 goals and 74 assists 184 playoff games.

The six-foot-three, 220-pound forward, a two-time 50-goal scorer, has also represented Canada at numerous events during his career, including two Olympics.
