Golden Knights in elite company

Forward James Neal and the Vegas Golden Knights have wasted no time making NHL history.

The Golden Knights became the third expansion team in NHL history to win its first two games by
rallying for a 2-1 overtime victory
at the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. They joined the 1967-68 Los Angeles Kings and Oakland Seals as the only expansion teams to start 2-0-0 -- but the Golden Knights are the first to do so without the benefit of playing other expansion teams. The Kings and Seals were two of the six teams that joined the NHL in 1967, and they opened their season against other first-year teams; each defeated the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota North Stars in its first two games.

The Golden Knights are also the first expansion team to start 2-0-0 by winning twice on the road; the Kings and Seals each began life in the NHL at home. Vegas plays its first home game Tuesday against the Arizona Coyotes (10 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN360, TVA Sports, NHL.TV) after defeating the Coyotes 2-1 in overtime at Gila River Arena on Saturday. That came one night after the Golden Knights' 2-1 victory at the Dallas Stars in their first regular-season game.
No expansion team has started 3-0-0. The Kings and Seals faced each other in Game 3 and played to a 2-2 tie in Oakland. For the Kings, it was part of a 3-0-2 start that's still the longest season-opening unbeaten streak by any expansion team.
Neal scored the game-winner in each of the Golden Knights' victories, making him the first player on an expansion team to score the deciding goal in each of his team's first two NHL games. Neal scored twice in the final 9:33 of the third period to give Vegas the win at Dallas, then scored with 1:14 remaining in overtime at Arizona.
