Varone scores two as the Knights pepper Plymouth with 49 shots @NHLdotcom

LONDON, Ont. - Phil Varone scored the winner and added an insurance marker to give the London Knights their third win in a row, a dominating 4-1 victory over the Plymouth Whalers.

Varone's winner came late in the second period after Plymouth jumped out to an early lead, with Chris Perry scoring the Whalers' only goal less than a minute into the game. The Knights took control after that, outshooting Plymouth 49-20, including 21 shots in the second period alone.

The win puts London (5-3-0-0) into second place in the Midwest Division. They are three points behind the Guelph Storm, but have a game in hand.

Matt Clarke and Christian Thomas also scored for the Knights.

London netminder Jason Guy made 19 saves, while Jeremy Smith stopped 45 shots for the Whalers (3-4-0-0).
