Vancouver Giants defenceman Jonathon Blum named WHL player of month

CALGARY - Vancouver Giants defenceman Jonathon Blum was named Western Hockey League player of the month Monday.

The 19-year-old blue-liner had 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) over the stretch and a plus-20 rating.

Blum was selected by the Nashville Predators with the 23rd overall pick in the 2007 NHL entry draft.

Bulldogs goalie Denis named AHL player of week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Hamilton Bulldogs goaltender Marc Denis was named American Hockey League player of the week Monday.

Denis recorded three victories last week and stopped 96 of 99 shots. He had a 0.97 goals-against average and a .970 save percentage.

Also Monday, Hershey Bears centre Keith Aucoin was named AHL player of the month. He had 18 points (5-13) in 10 games last month.

Ondrej Pavelec of the Chicago Wolves was named goaltender of the month and Grand Rapids Griffins centre Justin Abdelkader was named rookie of the month.
