Vancouver Canucks Chinese New Year

The Vancouver Canucks are ringing in Chinese New Year in style.

The Canucks will open the Year of the Dog by donning commemorative red warmup jerseys before their game against the Boston Bruins on Feb. 17.

The jersey wiill be red and gold with the Canucks logo on the front and has a unique chest patch with a dog and the name "Vancouver Canucks" and a shoulder patch with a dog and a hockey stick on each side. The color scheme symbolizes luck and fortune in Chinese culture, and the dog is a Pacific Northwest Husky, which represents family and strength.
The Canucks will also honor British Columbia native Larry Kwong, who was the first NHL player of Asian heritage when he played one game with the New York Rangers in 1948. Kwong's daughter Kristina will be on hand for a pregame ceremony.
