Calle Jarnkrok lifts Predators past Canucks in OT

NASHVILLE -- Calle Jarnkrok scored a shorthanded goal with 1.5 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Nashville Predators a 2-1 victory against the Vancouver Canucks at Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday.
Defenseman Roman Josi blocked a shot and led a 2-on-0 rush with Jarnkrok, who beat goaltender Ryan Miller to lift the Predators (18-16-7) to their first overtime win this season (1-4).
"I saw the puck was bobbing a little bit, so I wasn't sure if [Josi] was going to shoot it there or not," Jarnkrok said. "He gave me an open-netter, so I just have to say thanks to [Josi]."

Josi thought he won the game 20 seconds into overtime on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle, but his apparent goal was waved off because Viktor Arvidsson interfered with Miller, an on-ice call confirmed by video review.

"We just knew we had to stick with it," said Nashville forward Austin Watson, who scored in the second period. "There's only two ways to go about it: You either keep working or you just kind of give up, and we're not going to do that. We had to battle and find a way. It's kind of fitting that it ended that way."
The Canucks (20-19-4) have lost two straight games (0-1-1) after winning their previous six.

Vancouver forward Brandon Sutter scored with 48.6 seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game 1-1. His wrist shot from the right faceoff circle beat goaltender Pekka Rinne through the five-hole. It was Sutter's 11th goal.
"It's nice to get one [point]," Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said. "They're a good hockey team. It was a good game. It was hard fought all the way through. I thought right from the start we played well. I thought we had a better second period than the first, and then I thought in the third it was just a battle to get that goal. They're a team that needed a victory, and they played like that."

Watson gave the Predators a 1-0 lead 35 seconds into the second. Mike Fisher took the initial shot from the point, and Watson got the rebound off of the boards and shot it past Miller for his third goal.
Fisher is one assist shy of 300 for his NHL career after he set up Watson's goal.
Arvidsson returned to the lineup after missing two games with an upper-body injury.
Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev played after he left a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Saturday with an upper-body injury.

Goal of the game

Watson's goal was an example of being in the right place at the right time. Fisher's shot went wide of the net, and the rebound went right to Watson on Miller's glove side.

Save of the game

Rinne made a sprawling save on Canucks center Henrik Sedin on a chance from the slot with 1:05 left in the second period to protect a 1-0 lead. Sedin had Rinne out of position, but Rinne was able to get his right skate on the shot.

Unsung performance of the game

In addition to his assist on Watson's goal, Fisher had three hits, two blocked shots and a plus-1 rating in 19:24 of ice time.

Highlight of the game

Jarnkrok not only had to beat Miller in overtime, he had to beat the clock. Josi retrieved the puck in the neutral zone with 5.5 seconds remaining, and Jarnkrok had to get in position to receive the pass and get the shot off before time expired.
