Boyd powers Coyotes past Canucks

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Travis Boyd scored twice, and the Arizona Coyotes extended their point streak to seven games with a 3-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Mullett Arena on Thursday.

"We've proven to ourselves that, if we play the right way, we can beat any given team on any given night," Boyd said.
Lawson Crouse also scored, and Ivan Prosvetov made 29 saves for the Coyotes (26-32-11), who have won three in a row and are 5-0-2 during the streak.
"Hopefully, we can keep these wins coming," Crouse said. "We've been playing the right way; that's what's led us to all these wins and the point streak. We've got to keep approaching it day by day and having fun with it."

VAN@ARI: Boyd ties the game at 1-1 late in the 1st

Elias Pettersson had a goal and an assist, Anthony Beauvillier had two assists, and Thatcher Demko made 24 saves for the Canucks (29-33-5), who had won their previous five games.
"We were sleepy tonight. It wasn't a good effort," Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said. "I didn't like our game at all. … It's hard to describe this game because I didn't feel like we were really into it."
Andrei Kuzmenko gave Vancouver a 1-0 lead at 5:14 of the first period to extend his goal streak to four games (five goals). After Pettersson intercepted Michael Kesselring's clearing attempt along the boards, he passed the puck to Beauvillier for the tap pass to Kuzmenko at the left post.
Boyd tied it 1-1 at 19:30 when Tyler Myers' outlet pass deflected off Liam O'Brien and he collected the puck for a wrist shot from the left face-off circle. He then made it 2-1 at 12:44 of the second period when he slid the puck five-hole on a power play.
Boyd has three goals in his past two games and two multigoal games in 267 NHL games, including two goals against the St. Louis Blues on March 7.
"It's nice to see them go in," Boyd said. "It starts to build some confidence and when you start playing with confidence, all of a sudden you keep trying those things and you get some bounces. It's been a fun stretch for me, a fun stretch for the team."

VAN@ARI: Boyd scores his second goal of the game

Crouse extended it to 3-1 on a power play at 1:19 of the third period from a sharp angle before Pettersson cut it to 3-2 at 11:41 with a wrist shot from the right circle.
"We're playing determined hockey right now and having lots of fun with it, and everyone's contributing," Crouse said. "Our defense did a great job, the [penalty kill], the power play. It was just an overall great team win."
Arizona was 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, including 3-for-3 in the first period, and 2-for-3 with the man-advantage.
"In the second period, they took it to us for sure," Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes said. "All those power plays put us to sleep, and we didn't score on them. So, I don't know if that was momentum. … And when you get down by two in the third period, you're not going to come back every time."
Vancouver, which entered Thursday ranked 10th in the NHL on the power play (22.7 percent), had 11 shots on goal with the man-advantage.
"Yeah, the power play wasn't good. We had those three power plays [in the first], and we got that [even-strength] goal, and maybe we thought it was going to be easy," Tocchet said. "They're a hard-working team, they outworked us plain and simple, and we were 0-for-5 on the power play."
