VANCOUVER-Tyson Sexsmith made 23 saves as the Vancouver Giants blanked the Everett Silvertips 1-0 in a Western Hockey League game Saturday night.
Sexsmith earned his league-leading ninth shutout of the season. He now has 20 in his WHL career, one away from a league record.
James Henry netted his seventh of the season early in the second period to record the only goal of the game.
After a scoreless first period, the Giants (46-15-2-6) beat Silvertips (39-26-0-3) goalie Leeland Irving at 2:30 of the second.
Garet Hunt led a rush down the right side and the veteran grinder sent a neat pass to Henry and the rookie winger ripped it past Irving for the opening goal of the game.
Zack Dailey was robbed by Sexsmith on a power play during four-on-four play just short of the five-minute mark of the second period, keeping the Giants up by one.
On a late power play Sexsmith made a game-saving save off Shane Harper, bringing the Vancouver fans to their feet. Then in the final minutes Matt Ius beat the Giants' tender but hit the crossbar, keeping the puck outside the net.
