EDMONTON - Dana Tyrell scored two goals - including the game-winner - and snapped a three-game losing streak for the Prince George Cougars as they defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-3 in Western Hockey League action on Friday night.
Tyrell's short-handed marker gave the Cougars the 4-1 lead for good. The Oil Kings made up for the gaffe by scoring on the same power play thanks to Tomas Vincour's second goal of the game, but it wasn't enough to stop Prince George.
The game began with three goals on six shots in 29 seconds. Parker Stanfield opened the scoring for the Cougars (7-4-0-0) on the power play, tucking the puck past Oil Kings netminder Dalyn Flette at the side of the goal.
Edmonton (5-7-1-0) replied 16 seconds later with Vincour beating Prince George goalie Joe Caligiuri. Just 13 seconds after that, Colbhy Kulhanek regained the lead for the Cougars.
Brett Connolly and Brian Matte added goals for Prince George, while Brenden Dowd scored the Oil Kings' third goal.
Caligiuri stopped 37 shots for the Cougars. Oil Kings netminder Flette made 22 saves.
