Seguin, who has not played since his tendon was cut during a game March 17, resumed skating Wednesday.
"He's skating in a limited fashion, I would say somewhere between the 50 and 75 percent range," Ruff said. "There are times he pushes it, but we're trying to be a little cautious with that too. He's progressing nicely, and we just hope to keep on progressing here."
Seguin, who had 33 goals and 73 points in 72 games, was injured during the third period of a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He said two days later he did not expect to miss any playoff games. The playoffs begin April 13.
"We haven't talked about goals [for a return] much, but personally, I can't picture myself missing Game 1," Seguin said. "Even if I come back for the last game of the regular season (April 9), that would be quite the goal for me. There's a long way to go until then, so I am looking forward to getting better."
