DALLAS - Tyler Seguin scored on the first shot of the shootout, Antti Niemi stopped all three Vancouver attempts after making 34 saves and the Dallas Stars beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Friday night.

Vancouver's Henrik Sedin tied the game on the power play with 4:10 left. Daniel Sedin assisted with a pass across the goal mouth.

The Stars outshot the Canucks 6-2 in overtime, but goalie Ryan Miller stopped them even during a power play. Miller finished with 23 saves.

Niemi deflected Vancouver's last shootout attempt by Chris Higgins wide of the net.

Dallas' Jamie Benn scored his league-leading 17th goal on a tip-in on the power play with 4:33 left in the first period.

Daniel Sedin tied the game for the Canucks at 3:10 of the second period, but Jason Spezza put Dallas back ahead with a power-play goal with 8:08 left in the second.

The Stars won in their first shootout this season. Vancouver is 1-1 in shootouts.

Patrick Sharp had two assists for Dallas, the only NHL team that hasn't lost two straight games this season.

Vancouver controlled the puck for much of the first period but failed to score. The Stars killed 6 minutes of penalties in the first 10:22 of the game.

On Dallas' first power play, Seguin's one-timer from above the left faceoff circle went in off Benn's left ankle.

The Canucks outshot the Stars 15-8 in the first.

Niemi's best saves in the period were against Brandon Prust. The goalie stopped a shot early in the period and smothered the rebound. With barely a minute remaining, Prust beat Dallas' Jyrki Jokipakka to a loose puck in front but Niemi made a glove save.

Vancouver tied the game after Jannik Hansen stole a pass from John Klingberg and passed across the slot to Daniel Sedin, whose wrist shot beat Niemi.

Dallas regained the lead when Spezza took a pass from Klingberg, skated down into the right circle and lifted a slap shot over Miller to a narrow opening in the upper-right corner of the net.
