SUDBURY, Ont. - Tyler Fielding's slick backhand in the shootout was the clincher as the Ottawa 67's edged the Sudbury Wolves 4-3 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.
Sean Monahan scored two goals for the 67's (6-8-2), while Ryan Van Stralen contributed a goal as well. Tyler Graovac also had a goal in the shootout.
Michael Kantor struck twice for the Wolves (8-8-2), while Nathan Pancel also scored. Joshua Leivo had Sudbury's lone shootout goal.
Keegan Wilson turned aside 41 shots for the win, while Joel Vienneau made 34 saves for the Wolves.
Pancel was the recipient of a lucky bounce in front of the net as he caught Wilson out of position and shot the puck into the open net at 11:35 in the first period.
Monahan tied the game after he was left alone in the slot and fired a shot over Vienneau's glove at 17:00.
Monahan scored his second on the power play when he shot the puck over a sprawling Vienneau to make it 2-1 at 10:30 in the second.
Van Stralen scored 18 seconds into the third period after he was unmarked in the left face-off circle and fired a shot top right corner.
Sudbury cut the deficit in half at 17:20 after a backhand shot from Kantor squeaked between Wilson's arm and rolled over the goal-line. Pancel completed the comeback at 19:45 when he found the puck in a scramble in front of the net to make it 3-3.
Sudbury went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Ottawa wound up 1-for-4.
