Tuesday's QMJHL roundup @NHLdotcom

Marco Cousineau made 24 saves and the Saint John Sea Dogs took control of their first-round Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series with P.E.I. by beating the Rocket 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Sea Dogs took a 2-1 lead in the series, which shifted to Charlottetown after the Rocket earned a surprising spilt of the first two games in Saint John.

The Sea Dogs, who finished first in the QMJHL regular season with 109 points, opened the series with an easy 8-3 win at home and looked poised to make short work of P.E.I. But the Rocket came back with a 6-3 win in Game 2.

Saint John will try to take a 3-1 stranglehold of the series when it resumes Wednesday in Charlottetown, while the Rocket will try to use support from the home crowd to draw even.

Elsewhere in QMJHL first-round playoff action, it was: Moncton 3 Cape Breton 2 (OT); Drummondville 5 Lewiston 1; Shawinigan 4 Victoriaville 3; Acadie-Bathurs 4 Quebec 2; Chicoutimi 6 Rimouski 2; and Rouyn-Noranda 1 Val-d'Or 0.

At Charlottetown, Jonathan Huberdeau, Danick Gauthier and Mike Hoffman, with his third of the playoffs, scored for the Sea Dogs. Stanislav Galiev added a pair of assists.

Evan Mosher made 27 saves for the Rocket.

Wildcats 3 Screaming Eagles 2 (OT)

At Sydney, N.S., David Savard scored unassisted 14:53 into overtime as Moncton took a 3-0 series lead over Cape Breton.

Nicolas Deschamps scored the other two goals for Moncton, which had a 2-0 lead before Cape Breton fought back.

Nicolas Deschamps and Viktor Hertzberg replied for the Screaming Eagles.

Moncton can complete the sweep with a win Wednesday in Sydney.


Voltigeurs 5 Maineiacs 1

At Lewiston, Maine, Gabriel Dumont scored his fourth goal of the playoffs and added an assist as Drummondville took a 3-0 series lead over the Maineiacs.

Benoit Levesque, Jonathan Brunelle, Andrew Randazzo and Marc-Olivier Vachon also scored for the Voltigeurs, who can sweep the series with a win Wednesday in Lewiston.

Zachary Evans-Renaud replied for the Maineiacs.


Cataractes 4 Tigres 3

At Shawinigan, Que., Dominik Schlumpf scored with dour seconds remaining in regulation and the Cataractes took a 2-1 series lead over Victoriaville.

Antoine Houde-Caron, Michael Bournival and Dave Labrecque also scored for Shawinigan, which trailed 3-2 entering the third period.

Joel Champagne, Travis McIsaac and Chris Doyle replied for the Tigres.

Game 4 is Wednesday in Shawinigan.


Titan 4 Remparts 2

At Bathurst, N.B., Francois Lacerte made 39 saves and the Titan beat Quebec, narrowing the Remparts' series lead to 2-1.

Taylor Lambke, Jonathan Lessard, Sebastien Trudeau and Eric Faille scored for the Titan.

Dominic Savoie and Dmitri Kugryshev had Quebec's goals.

Game 4 is Wednesday in Bathurst.


Sagueneens 6 Oceanic 2

At Chicoutimi, Que., Emrik Guillemette scored twice as the Saguneneens cut Rimouski's series lead to 2-1.

Eric Gelinas, Alexandre Lavoie, Antoine Roussel and Nicolas Therrien also scored for Chicoutimi.

Jakub Culek and Alexandre Durette replied for Rimouski.

Game 4 is Wednesday in Chicoutimi.


Huskies 1 Foreurs 0

At Val'd-Or, Que., Antoine Quevillon scored the game's only goal as Rouyn-Noranda took a 2-1 series lead over the Foreurs.

Nicholas Champion needed to make just 16 saves to pick up the shutout.

Raffaele D'Orso stopped 30 shots for the Foreurs, who will look to even the series at home Wednesday.
