Nicolas Chouinard scored five times as the Montreal Junior beat the Lewiston Maineiacs 9-7 in a wild Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game Tuesday.
Chris Thorne and Matthew Brenton each added a goal and an assist for Montreal (28-26-5), while Matt Provost and David Rose also scored.
Matt Boyle and Samuel Carrier each had a goal an assist for Lewiston (21-36-3). Michal Hlinka, Michael Chaput, Jess Tanguy, Samuel Finn and Oskar Orrpars had the other goals.
Pierre-Olivier Morin had three assists for the Maineiacs and Samuel Henley had two of his own.
Jean-Francois Berube started for Montreal but allowed three goals on four shots in the first period. Etienne Marcoux went the rest of the way and made 22 saves for the win.
Adrien Lemay made 29 shots in defeat for Lewiston.
In the only other game in the QMJHL, Quebec topped Baie-Comeau 4-3 in overtime.
At Lewiston, Maine, with the Junior and Maineiacs tied 5-5 after two period, Chouinard took over.
He scored his second of the night unassisted 21 seconds into the third to give Montreal the lead, and after Finn tied things again for Lewistion at 6:49, Chouinard scored back-to-back power-play goals less than two minutes apart for an 8-6 lead.
Chouinard added an empty-netter at 19:01, before Orrpars got one back for Lewiston with 29 seconds left.
Chouinard's performance set a Montreal franchise record for goals in a game.

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Dmitri Kugryshev scored on the power play 30 seconds into overtime as Quebec held off the Drakkar.
Mikhail Stefanovich had two goals and an assist for Quebec (37-17-7), while Olivier Hinse also scored. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Kugryshev each added two assists.
Mike Villeneuve, Kevin Fiset and Antoine Laperriere had the goals for Baie-Comeau (17-37-6).
