It took more than four periods of hockey, but the Saginaw Spirit have the Guelph Storm on the ropes.

T. J. Brodie's goal at 5:40 of double overtime gave the Spirit a 7-6 win over the Storm in Ontario Hockey League playoff action Tuesday. The Spirit took a commanding 3-0 lead in their first round quarter-final series. Saginaw can wrap up its first ever series win on Thursday at Guelph, Ont.

Jack Combs continued his torrid scoring with four points including two goals. Jordan Szwarz added three assist and Tyler Murovich and Chris Chappell each had a goal and two assist.

In other OHL playoff action, it was: Plymouth 5 Sarnia 1; Belleville 2 Sudbury 1; Peterborough 4 Brampton 2; and Niagara 5 Ottawa 3.

At Saginaw, Mich., Kyle Bochek also scored for the Spirit, who twice blew two goal leads.

Peter Holland scored a hat trick for Guelph and Brandon Buck and Matt Kennedy each had a goal and an assist.

Tyler Carroll added a goal and Michael Latta had a pair of assists for the Storm.

Edward Pasquale made 48 saves for the Spirit while Brandon Foote stopped 46 shots for the Storm.

Whalers 5 Sting 1

At Plymouth, Mich., Chris Terry scored twice and added two assists to lead the Whalers past the Sarnia.

Rookie Tyler Seguin chipped in a goal and three helpers, while Joe Gaynor and Ryan Hayes had singles.

Matt Martin replied for the Sitng.

The Whalers lead the best-of-seven OHL Western Conference quarter-final series 2-1, with Game 4 slated for Sarnia, Ont., on Thursday night.


Bulls 2 Wolves 1

At Sudbury, Ont., Nick Palmieri scored the winning goal as Belleville beat the Sudbury Wolves 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League playoff action Tuesday.

Eric Tangradi also scored for Belleville.

Frankie Santini replied for Sudbury.

The Bulls lead the first-round series 3-1. They can wrap it up with a win in Game 5 in Sudbury on Wednesday.


Petes 4 Battalion 2

At Peterborough, Ont., Thomas McCollum made 31 saves as Brampton put the Petes on the edge of elimination.

Brampton forwards Anthony Peluso, Evgeny Grachev, Matt Kang and Matt Duchene scored while defenceman Josh Day added three helpers as the Battalion took a 3-0 series lead.

Brett Theberge and Pat Daley scored for the Petes.

Game 4 of the series is Friday in Brampton, Ont.


IceDogs 5 67's 3

At St. Catharines, Ont., Marco Insam scored twice and added an assist as the Niagara IceDogs beat the Ottawa 67's 5-3 in Ontario Hockey League playoff action Tuesday.

Alex Friesen had a goal and two assists for the IceDogs, while Matthew Sisca and Freddie Hamilton also scored.

Thomas Kiriakou, Ryan Martindale and Tyler Toffoli replied for Ottawa.

Niagara took a 2-1 lead in the first-round series. Game 4 is Thursday in St. Catharines.
