Tri-City rides three-goal first period to 6-2 victory over Portland

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Brett Plouffe and Johnny Lazo scored 41 seconds apart in the first period as the Tri-City Americans cruised past the Portland Winterhawks 6-2 in WHL action Wednesday.

Plouffe and Justin Feser had a goal and an assist to lead the way for the Americans (19-6-0), who led 3-0 after 20 minutes. Jarrett Toll, Kruise Reddick and Neal Prokop added singles, while four different players added two assists apiece.

Stefan Schneider had both goals for the Winterhawks (16-12-0).

Drew Owsley stopped 24 shots to earn the victory for Tri-City.

Mac Carruth and Ian Curtis combined to make 36 saves for Portland.

The Americans played without leading scorer Brendan Shinnimin, and Portland was without defenseman Brett Ponich. Both were playing for Team WHL in the Subway Super Series.
