Trevor van Riemsdyk agrees to terms with Hurricanes

Defenseman was restricted free agent, had career-high 13 assists last season

Trevor van Riemsdyk agreed to terms on a two-year, $4.6 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. It has an average annual value of $2.3 million.

The 26-year-old defenseman had 16 points, including an NHL career-high 13 assists, in 79 games with the Hurricanes last season.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Blackhawks on March 24, 2014, van Riemsdyk has 47 points (11 goals, 36 assists) in 237 NHL games with the Hurricanes and Blackhawks and one goal in 15 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, winning the Cup with Chicago in 2015.
