Training Camp Notebook: Day 1

Training camp is in full swing as the Islanders were back on the ice on Friday morning.

were split into two groups as the Islanders coaches and management begin their preseason evaluations.
As expected, Jordan Eberle joined John Tavares and Anders Lee on the top line in a veteran-heavy Group One. Mathew Barzal centered a line with Andrew Ladd and Josh Bailey in Group One, while Anthony Beauvillier centered a line with Brock Nelson and Josh Ho-Sang in Group Two. Nikolay Kulemin, Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck were the only holdover line from last season.

Weight also defined the roles of his assistant coaches. Greg Cronin will continue to run the penalty kill, Luke Richardson will run the defensive side, while Kelly Buchberger and Scott Gomez will handle power-play duties. Cronin, Richardson and Buchberger will join Weight on the bench, while Gomez provides the eye in the sky.
