TORONTO (CP) - Maple Leafs defenceman Pavel Kubina had an assist in his return Tuesday after missing nearly two weeks with a broken finger.
Kubina assisted on Alexei Ponikarovsky's goal as the Maple Leafs beat the Washington Capitals 3-0. He's still experiencing some pain but is being pressed into duty in the wake of defenceman Tomas Kaberle's recent concussion.
Kubina had been out since Feb. 22, when he was hurt in a 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Islanders.
The Czech blue-liner, who signed a US$20-million, four-year contract last July, has five goals and 11 assists in 46 games.
Meanwhile, there was no update from the team on Kaberle's condition. He's expected to be out at least another two weeks.
Kaberle was taken from the ice on a stretcher and spent a night in hospital after taking a late hit to the head from Devils tough guy Cam Janssen last Friday.
Kaberle is being closely monitored by doctors for post-concussion symptoms.
