Defenseman Torey Krug signed a four-year, $21 million contract with the Boston Bruins on Thursday. The contract has an average annual value of $5.25 million.
Krug, 25, could have become a restricted free agent Friday.
He had four goals and an NHL career-high 44 points in 81 games this season. He led Bruins defensemen in assists and points, and was second among all Bruins players in average ice time per game (21:36), behind captain Zdeno Chara (24:05).
In five NHL seasons, all with the Bruins, he has 125 points in 241 regular-season games, and 16 points in 27 Stanley Cup Playoffs games.
Krug was signed as an undrafted free agent from Michigan State in March 2012.
